Unimaginative Fools
unable to paint a life
through their own brushstrokes
having to follow the lines
drawn by those before them
only shading with colors
acceptable to their society
staying within the borders of
ordinary experience
They wear dog collars and
they don’t even know it
as they never tend to
venture past the limits of
their constraints
and yet, they wonder why
they can never get ahead
