A good day

It’s a shitty day
when the failures
return, and the
insecurities you thought
long ago forgotten
knock at the
door
holding a bottle
of wine and wearing
a party hat

“Hey! Let’s celebrate
big boy! It’s been a
while! Let’s get
drunk and talk
about how you
aren’t what you
think you
are.”

“It sounds enticing,”
I say. “But things are
not what they
used to
be. The wine is
no longer
appealing and I
have to work in
the morning.”

It’s a shitty day
when the assholes
at work make you
miserable
when the assholes in
traffic make you
angry
when humanity itself
becomes a
self-destructive
virus.

But hey,
At least I didn’t
drink, and that
makes today
a good day.
