Every Day

EVERY DAY

Every day I
get a little closer to
my permanent place
of dwelling,
where the walls are
made from earth and
only the earthworms
visit

Every day takes
a little bit of
my essence,
dissolving in the
stew of time,
inviting me into
the halls of
the forgotten,
turning me invisible
one wrinkle at
a time

Every day I
fade away and
I am still not sure
that I made a
difference

Will my life
end up having a
single speck of
significance?

Only when I am gone
will I know if I
existed
